Andros

Afew years ago we were on holiday in Andros a sparsely populated Greek island. I was waking at 6 each morning to record backing tracks for Black Snowflake and this melody was the most memorable.Every year or so I’d play with it a bit more. and working with Carrie’s voice made me realise i could frame it as a summer holiday disco regret song.

More recently I read that Andros became a landing point for refugees from the wars in Syria, and realised that Andros has a totally different meaning for them, trying to mention that as a contrast in the second half of the song.

VERSE1

I want to hear you talk

As if you’re on the late show

Watching the other guests

Upstage you if they can

I want to see you ride

when someone else is driving

People don’t look the same

when they’re trying to understand

VERSE2

Show me the map, the place

I need to know locations

Standing upon the peak

You scan the sky for clouds

I feel alert, alive

I walk the streets of Andros

Don’t feel the need to stop.

Me when I think out loud

CHORUS1

Sun sets behind the clouds

Above the landscape of silent lines

Below the tall trees that pierce the sky

Beneath the concrete the highway rides - Andros

VERSE 3

Dawn rises fast

Wipe out the past

Erosion of a lifetime

Millions speed by

Explode the sky

They’re gonna to shoot us down

Fahrenheit soars

The jet plane roars

So careless and remorseless

Luxury prize

You win your life

The outline of a sound

CHORUS

Cliff tops beneath the moon

The car tyres swerving

Close to the verge

All engines racing

The sonic boom

That brings us closer

Towards the edge - Andros
